Benson is my 8 1/2 year old foster bunny. I rescued him from being euthanized because his owners got a divorce and were moving to different states...and didn't think Benson would make the trip well.

Benson had free run of the downstairs of a massive mansion of a house and was basically forgotten during the past year or so because of the divorce. His old owners adopted him when he was 1 years old, possibly from BHRR, and had Benson for the past 7 1/2 years. He had a huge KW cage with levels and wire floors.

Benson now lives in a 3x2 NIC cage in my "bunny room", with lots of toys and a comfy fleece floor. He is very loving and gentle, I can cradle him like a baby and he just adores it. He is a REW Holland Lop, so he has that "spunky" attitude of a Holland....but in a more "relaxed" way because of his age.

Benson just went to the vet this past Saturday (the 12th). Our vet said he has years of life left Very Happy! I believe our vet.....I think Benson is going to be around for a looong time Laughing.

Ben has a cataract in his right eye (so he is blind in that eye), so the vet gave us eye drops for him. He also got his nails clipped! His teeth look great, too. Ben has callouses on his feet from previous sore hocks, so I have been putting neosporin on them just in case they are still a bit sore. Ben is 3 3/4th pounds, which is about right for a Holland. He is also neutered!

I also believe that Benson is deaf. I forgot to ask the vet, but all the "home deaf tests" pretty much lead me to believe he truly is, unless he is just a super chill bunny guy...which could also be the case Wink.

Benson was fed horrible food and treats his whole entire life. Kaytee junk pellets that look like dog kibble, seed & dried fruit treats, corn cob treats, ect. I am not working on switching him over to Oxbow BBT, by making him a pellet slurry with canned pumpkin, oats, water, and a dash of grape pedialyte.

Ben is up for adoption to an experienced "bunny home", only. He has years old life left and I hope that some special person will want to provide him with a great home for the next years to come!

I'll post pictures of Benson, the old junk food he was fed, his old cage, and his new cage......tomorrow Very Happy.

Thank you so much for having such a kind heart and taking Benson in. We will definitely spread the word about Benson. Hopefully he can find a wonderful forever home! We know he is being spoiled and pampered in the lap of luxury until then! Very Happy

This is Benson just a few days ago Very Happy ....

I hope someone will fall in love with Benson and adopt him, he deserves it! I would love to keep him, but I know that it's another probably 4 year commitment. I, of course, will keep him if no one adopts him....but I would love to keep the spot open for more fosters.

Very Happy

It is so concerning seeing all the junk people feed their rabbits. I am so glad you have him on a healthy diet now.

I came back to read through this thread and saw the pictures of Benson. He has lost a lot of his "fatty weight" and his now healthy looking. He weighs 3lbs 15oz now!

I'll take new pictures of him later, after work Very Happy.

Benson has been a great boy! He has dropped a lot of fatty weight and now looks really good. He is such a charming boy. I love him so much, but he is still up for adoption through Brambley Hedge.

I don't think he is 100% deaf because sometimes he will hear a noise and thump...maybe he is deaf and can see a little bit, so he sees a shadow and thumps? Who knows.

Benson has had to go to the vet quite a bit for his eye issues. He just needs regular tear duct flushes. Right now he is on eye ointment for for an eye infection that is in the inner beggining of his tear duct.

We switched vets at our clinic, so our new vet is Dr. Batt...who used to work with the San Diego House Rabbit Society and did all sorts of things at Bunny Fest. She is really great!

Here are new pictures of our old guy...

I am offering a $50 gift certicicate to the Bunny Basics store to who ever adopts Benson Very Happy!

Hi Undergunfire,

I may know someone that would want to adopt Benson. They are out of town right now but I will check with them as soon as they are back (over the weekend). They have a blind and deaf female Holland Lop who is 10 years old (as well as two other rescued bunnies) and they are definitely considering adding another needy bun. We have told them about Benson and they were interested. As soon as I can touch base with them I'll have them post here.

We'll all keep our fingers and paws crossed that maybe they will be able to give Benson a loving and wonderful forever home!!!!

Bunny hugs,
Belle, Zeus, Taz and Bubbles (oh yeah, and mom too!) Smile

That would be the most perfect home for Benson. I think this is the same people that Kelly was talking to me about...but it never went anywhere.

I would love a home like that for Benson. I love him so much and I will be so heart broken to see him go, but I know he would love a place where he could free-range more. He doesn't like to play in the bunny room because my other bunnies don't like him...they try to attack him through the cage bars. Ben does LOVE to play around the living room...but I have to lock away the doggie and kitties (who get very angry!).

Ryan (my fiancee) is now joining the Navy once he hears word from his recruiter and we talked about adopting Benson fully from BHRR, but that is a lot to consider as moving 3 rats, 2 kitties, 3 bunnies, and a doggie possibly across country is quite a bit already....also considering we will need to find a home to rent...which may be hard because of our furkids.

We are hoping Ryan won't leave until the beginning of next year for BTC, and then I would move 8 months after that....so there is a while before we would have to act on anything.

Keep me updated, for sure ! Very Happy

This is the same family that Kelly was talking about. They are in the process of buying a home and have been in limbo with that for quite some time as the bank is s-l-o-w to say the least which is probably why nothing seemed to be happening. In any event, Benson would be loved beyond measure and he would have such a wonderful life! I promise I'll keep you updated and let you know.

Yes, Benson has found his new home! I am extremely sad that he is no longer with us here and the bunny room feels empty. I am happy and relieved knowing Benson Bunners is in a loving home. Cindy and Matt are just awesome bunny lovers!

Normally when a foster animal of mine gets adopted, I email the adopters a few times a week...to make sure they are doing well with the their new fur-baby. I have no worries about Benson's care and know he is doing well in the hands of Cindy and Matt!

Hopefully their older bunny, Sprinkles, and Benson will bond Very Happy.
