Marlin, Morgan, and Brody live in our "closet" for right now. Ryan (my fiance) and I will be renting our first house in June and will be paying extra for a 2 bedroom, so that the bunnies (and the rats!) can have their own bedroom Very Happy .

Once we get the house, I am going to make one HUGE NIC pen in the "bunny room", and see how my bunny bonding goes. I have been actively bonding my three neutered males for the past 2 months. We are taking it slow, but things are going AWESOME....no fights, just bunny love!

For just a few more months, all three bunnies have 2 NIC panel by 3 NIC panel cages. They are going to love it when they have a whole entire bedroom.

I can totally relate to what you mean! My husband and I converted our breakfast room (it's about a 10' x 12' room with southern/western exposure) into the bunny wing of the house. He even built a little plexiglass door (framed in wood) that is about 20" high to keep the pooches out and the bunnies in (when we're not home). The best part is that since it's plexiglass, the buns can sit there and watch everything that's happening in the kitchen and into the living room.

My dining room table and two chairs are still in there and provide levels for playing and cover. I've got a big cardboard box stationed between the two chairs and it's a step up on that to the chair seats. Belle loves to hang out on the chairs during the spring and summer for some reason. In addition, we got a cedar wood hutch so they have more levels and a townhouse sort of feel. It was important to me to give them their own space with lots of good places to hide as well as some open areas. They have about 20+ toys strewn about, a big dog bed, two smaller beds, about five cardboard boxes of varying sizes with doors, windows, etc. cut out in them, four water bowls, two bowls for pellets, and four or five baskets with endless timothy hay.

As soon as I get home from work we move half of everything into the living room and it's free roamin' chickens all night long...bunnies, dogs, peeps and the bird together as one big happy family. It's the best!!!

Just a little bit longer and your bunnies will have their own castle to call their own...and they'll be happier for it! Smile

WOW, Bun&Dogmom! You have some very lucky bunnies. I wish I could do plexi-glass doors or walls, hehe....but we will be renting. I'm going to have to be super careful of wood work and carpeting.

My plan is, that if the bunny room is carpeted, then I am going to get huge sheets of particle board and built up the sides with about a 1ft side all around, then cover the particle board with linoleum....that way the sides have a "slope"...in case of pee accidents. Then...put a 2 NIC panel high all the way around the room (to prevent escapes)I am hoping the carpet will be protected this way.

It's going to be a huge pain to do all that, but it will be worth it. I hope we will get lucky and rent a place with wood flooring through-out or the landowners will allow us to do wood floors in the "bunny room", if we pay for it. I have a feeling all that lino and particle board will be a huge pain in the tush.

Ahhh, I don't know. I am thinking out-loud here. I am super excited. I can only hope for wood floors Laughing .

Bunnies loooooove tile floors as well, which are sometimes a little easier to find in Arizona than wood....I don't know where you live.

I'm sorry, I just remembered something from when our bunnies were on carpet. You know those chair mats with the little teeth on the bottom that they put under office chairs and desks to protect the carpet and help the chairs roll easily? Those are PERFECT as a base for a NIC cage to sit on. You can buy them as runners, too, although those are sometimes not as heavy-duty. I know Wal-mart has the chair mats, and I've seen the runners sold by the foot at ACE hardware.

If you wanted to cover a whole room with the runners, you could overlap the edges slightly and fasten them with industrial-strength velcro.

Whoa....this thread is olddd Laughing!

I have changed my cages and moved into a 3 bedroom house since this thread. There are my new NIC cages...

Except, on the far left...I have put my 8.5 year old foster for Brambley Hedge in a 2 wide by 3 long NIC cage...on top of the other cage.

Very Happy
